Electrical and Computer Engineering Student Awarded IEEE Scholarship

Matt Parker is 1 of 82 recipients across the country to receive an IEEE scholarship for his studies of the power industry and its impact on our society.

Matt Parker, Class of 2024 in Electrical and Computer Engineering,  was awarded the Power and Energy Society Scholarship from the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Matt was 1 of 82 undergraduate students across the country with Matt being the only recipient from NC State. The scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who are majoring in electrical engineering, are high achievers with strong GPAs with distinctive extracurricular commitments, and are committed to exploring the power and energy field.

After completing the dual degree program, Matt will be pursuing a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in machine learning. In addition to his studies and projects, he has also been part of the Engineers Council and the National Association of Engineering Student Council. Matt is pursuing a master’s while working for Burns & McDonnell – a construction and engineering firm.

The Power and Energy Society (PES) provides the world’s largest forum for sharing the latest in technological developments in the electric power industry, for developing standards that guide the development and construction of equipment and systems. The PES develops standards and empowers the development of technology, software, and best practices in all areas of electric power and energy including generation, transmission, distribution and utilization to provide a reliable, resilient, safe, cost-effective and sustainable AC and DC electricity supply system.
