Supporting the Future of ECE
Through generous alumni, corporate partners and friends, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has been able to create opportunities, foster new research and technologies and attract the brightest professors and students.
Your investments in our department not only contribute to this vision but also help ensure your NC State degree continues to grow in prominence and value.
Your support helps provide scholarships for students, and funds projects that directly benefit the department’s mission of the accumulation, generation, and dissemination of knowledge in the field of electrical and computer engineering.
Donations are tax-deductible and support the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
What can our Pack do in 24 hours?
Together, you’ve helped make NC State Day of Giving a special Wolfpack tradition. Mark your calendars for March 20, 2024, for this year’s event — a day filled with fun challenges, leaderboard competitions and the strength of the Pack. Every gift makes a difference by enhancing programs and facilities, supporting faculty and helping current and future students achieve their potential.
Join us. It’s going to be extraordinary.
ECE Enhancement Fund
The ECE Enhancement Fund was created to enhance the academic and co-curricular experience of undergraduate and graduate students in the department. The purpose of the fund is to provide direct funding for projects, resources, facilities, and engagement opportunities for students and faculty. The creation of the fund helps the department achieve the following established strategic goals:
- Enhance the success of our students through educational innovation by providing high-impact educational experiences
- Enhance local and global engagement by supporting and providing opportunities and resources for student and career opportunities
- Encourage the development and continual improvement of the department’s facilities
- Serve to recruit the brightest and best undergraduate and graduate students and ensure their continuing success within the department.
“Attending the SWE Conference is one of the most fulfilling and exciting experiences I have had in my undergraduate career. Being surrounded by the best female engineers in the country, hearing from industry professionals about new, exciting topics daily, and embracing the seemingly endless career opportunities available to me was inspiring and reinvigorated my faith that I am in the right place pursuing the right education. I felt supported throughout the entire process by NC State, SWE, and my peers and would recommend this experience to any woman in engineering no matter where they are in the process of finding their purpose and passion.”
Support Crucial to Team Competing in High-Performance Computing Competition
Thanks to alumni and industry support, a team of ECE students, led by Berra Kara, competed in the Student Cluster Competition at SC19, the hallmark supercomputing conference in Denver, CO.
“I went to SC18 as a part of one of the student programs called Experiencing HPC for Undergraduates,” explained Kara.
“There I learned more about the High-Performance Computing (HPC) field. Honestly, I was really sad to find out that John and I were the only undergraduates at the conference from NC State. After getting back from SC18, we decided to form a Student Cluster Competition (SCC) team to expose more undergraduate students to this conference/field. We were able to connect with Cisco and they eventually decided to sponsor the team by letting the team choose their cluster (supercomputer) and use it for about 6 months in a lab in EB2.”
“This program gave us opportunities that we wouldn’t have been able to have had without this and without being supported by the department. At the conference, many of the team members got to interact with engineers and scientists from industry and academia. In fact, we all got to meet the CEO of NVIDIA. These are not opportunities we have everyday, and moreover, some members of the team got internship offers through the connections they made at the conference. This highly competitive competition makes students stand out in the crowd and gives them more opportunities after graduation”
“None of this would’ve been possible without the ECE Enhancement Fund’s help and the Cisco sponsorship we had.”
ECE Centennial Scholarship Endowment
Dr. Daniel D. and Mrs. Katherine E. Stancil established and endowed a scholarship for the NC State Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2018. Named the ECE Centennial Scholarship Endowment, the fund will provide scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in electrical or computer engineering at North Carolina State University. The scholarship will provide need-based support to one or more students for one academic year and may be renewable.
Although for the second year in a row, Money magazine identified NC State as the best value for students attending college in North Carolina, tuition and fees for in-state undergraduates for the 2018-19 academic year are estimated at $9,100. With their gift to support education at NC State, the Stancil family is a shining example of faculty making a very personal investment to ensure our students’ educational aspirations are not constrained by financial burden.
ECE MakerSpace Fund
In 2017, the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering officially opened the ECE MakerSpace in Engineering Building II, consisting of two facilities – the Robert M. Kolbas MakerSpace, and the William F. Troxler MakerSpace. The two spaces serve to provide all of the resources students need to realize electronics and fabrication projects, both for Senior Design and other coursework as well as extracurricular and personal experimentation and creation.
Your support to the MakerSpace Fund helps continue our ability to purchase new machines, upgrade equipment and purchase additional supplies for the students using the Spaces.
When I heard that the department wanted to make MakerSpaces, that’s what led me to make this donation because I don’t want our students to be as frustrated as I was. ”
